In October 2022, EPA mandated that all dichlorvos labels change the directions for use to require remote applications of the insecticide in food processing and commodity storage facilities. Prior to this date, applicators were allowed to place VAP-X™ cylinders within the treatment area, attach the nozzles, and while wearing personal protective equipment, they could apply the insecticide.

In order for applicators to comply with the label change, Cardinal has come up with three different application alternatives: (1) Fixed Application System, (2) Remote Application System, and (3) Cardinal Wireless Application System.

Alternative Application 1

Fixed Application System

For facilities that regularly apply either VAP-X™ or PYRE-X™, Fixed Application Systems are a longterm and economical solution for safe and effective applications of the insecticide. Nozzles are permanently installed within the treatment area, with chemical resistant, high pressure hoses leading to an exterior application site.

Alternative Application 2

Remote Application System

This has become the most used application system for VAP-X™ since the label change. It consists of a tripod with nozzles secured to it, with high-pressure, chemical resistant application hoses that extend from the tripods to the exterior of the building.

Alternative Application 3

Cardinal Wireless Application System Leveraging technology.

The Cardinal Wireless Application System leverages cutting-edge LoRa technology to remotely manage the application of VAP-X™ or PYRE-X™ from outside the treatment area. This innovative system includes a valve controller, manipulator, cellular hub, and a user-friendly mobile app, enabling seamless control of ball valves and nozzles connected to the cylinders. Designed for reliability and reach, the wireless transmission effortlessly penetrates obstacles like concrete and metal-insulated walls, operating across extensive distances and heights. Tested in diverse environments, this system offers robust and effective management of over a hundred cylinders from a single location.

Advanced Wireless Technology

Utilizes LoRa (long range, low power wireless transmission) to ensure reliable, remote control from the exterior of the treatment area, providing the latest in wireless innovation.

Comprehensive Control and Flexibility

The system includes a valve controller, valve manipulator, cellular hub, and a user-friendly phone app. It allows you to effortlessly manage the opening and closing of ball valves and nozzles connected to VAP-X™ or PYRE-X™ cylinders, offering seamless control over treatment processes.

Unmatched Range and Penetration

Capable of penetrating through concrete and metal-insulated walls, and reaching distances of up to over a thousand feet, the Cardinal Wireless Application System can manage over a hundred cylinders from just one exterior location, demonstrating powerful and versatile performance.

FIELD TRIAL PERFORMED AT A TREE NUT FACILITY

The facility below is a tree nut processor where we placed a total of eight VAP-XTM cylinders inside warehouses with walls that were heavily insulated. The ProHub was placed outside, between the three warehouses and had a maximum distance of 267 ft from the cylinders. All cylinders were operated successfully with the phone app.
